To further enhance the security of campus accounts and better protect personal data, academic materials, and research work, the University will officially roll out Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) across the University.

1. Activation Date

Starting from September 1, 2026, the University will officially begin enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for all students and staff.

2. Scope of Application

Users: 2FA will apply to all students and staff. Starting from September 1, 2026, 2FA will be enabled for users who have completed the confirmation of their 2FA contact information. If you have not yet confirmed your contact information, please complete the confirmation via linkby August 28, 2026. If your information is incorrect or has changed, please update it promptly.

Application Scope: Campus information systems accessed using your campus account, as well as Microsoft 365 applications accessed using your campus email account.

3. What is Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)?

Two-Factor Authentication is a more secure identity verification method. When logging into a system, in addition to your username and password, you will be required to enter a verification code sent to your mobile phone via SMS or to your personal email.

This adds an extra layer of dynamic security protection to your account. Even if someone obtains your password, they will be unable to log in without access to your mobile phone or personal email.

4. How to Use

a. Sign in using your campus account and password.

b. Select a verification method and enter the verification code you receive.

c. Once the verification is completed successfully, you will be signed in.

5. Important Notes

·  Please ensure that your registered mobile phone number and personal email address are accurate and up to date. If you need to update your verification information, please contact gzit@hkust-gz.edu.cn.

·  If you select email verification but cannot find the verification code in your inbox, please check your spam/junk folder, as some email providers may mistakenly classify verification emails as spam.

·  Once 2FA is enabled, you will be required to sign in again to Microsoft 365 applications. Please open your Microsoft 365 applications, including your mailbox, and complete the verification promptly to avoid service interruptions or delays in receiving emails.

·  If you are unable to receive a verification code, are not redirected to the 2FA verification page, or encounter any other issues with 2FA, please contact gzit@hkust-gz.edu.cn for assistance.
