Notice on the Activation of Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for Campus Accounts

Dear All,

To further enhance the security of campus accounts and better protect personal data, academic materials, and research work, the University will officially roll out Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) across the University.

1. Activation Schedule

To ensure a smooth and orderly rollout and a good login experience, starting from September 1, 2026, 2FA will be enabled for users in phases. This round of activation is expected to be completed by September 3. Once 2FA has been enabled for your account, you will be prompted to complete 2FA verification when signing in to the relevant systems with your campus account.

2. Scope of Application

Users: Users who have completed the confirmation of their 2FA personal contact information by August 28, 2026.

Systems Covered: Campus information systems accessed using a campus account, as well as Microsoft 365 applications accessed using a campus email account.

If you have not yet confirmed your personal contact information, please click this link to complete the confirmation. If your information is incorrect or has changed, please update it promptly. After the confirmation, 2FA will be enabled for your account subsequently.

3. How to Use

a. Sign in using your campus account and password.

b. Select a verification method and enter the verification code sent to your mobile phone or personal email address.

c. Once the verification is completed successfully, you will be signed in.

Please refer to the attached 2FA User Guide for detailed instructions.

4. Important Notes

  • Please ensure that your registered mobile phone number and personal email address are accurate, up to date, and accessible. If you need to update your verification information, please contact gzit@hkust-gz.edu.cn.
  • If you select email verification but cannot find the verification code in your inbox, please check your spam/junk folder, as some email providers may mistakenly classify verification emails as spam.
  • Once 2FA is enabled, you may be required to sign in to your Microsoft 365 applications again and complete the verification process. Please open your Microsoft 365 applications (e.g. Outlook) and complete the verification promptly to avoid interruptions to related services or delays in receiving emails.
  • If you are unable to receive a verification code, are not redirected to the 2FA verification page, or encounter any other issues with 2FA, please contact gzit@hkust-gz.edu.cn for assistance.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
