Official Launch of HPC Phase IV (Domestic) Cluster and Maintenance Notice

Since the trial operation of the HKUST(GZ) HPC Phase IV (Domestic) Cluster commenced on February 6, 2026, it has received active usage and positive feedback from our campus community. The HPC team would like to express its sincere gratitude to all faculty and students.

During the trial period, more than 330 users applied for access, with over 40,000 jobs submitted, 155 model/software adaptation requests completed, and the platform has remained stable overall. As previously announced, the three-month trial period will soon come to an end.

I. Official Launch Notice

To further improve the utilization efficiency of campus computing resources and better serve our users, the HPC Phase IV (Domestic) Cluster will officially launch on May 6, 2026. Charging for computing and storage resources will begin on the launch date. Please refer to the attached document for resource pricing.

Before the official launch, please pay attention to the following:

1. Deactivation of trial accounts: Starting from the date of this notice, no new trial accounts will be issued. After the platform goes live, trial accounts will no longer be able to submit new computing jobs.

2. Formal account application: Users who already have an HPC Phase III account can log in directly using their SSO credentials. Users who have not previously applied for an HPC Phase III account can refer to the HPC Knowledge Base for account application. (https://docs.hpc.hkust-gz.edu.cn/docs/application/account-application)

3. Data migration: To prevent data loss during subsequent cleanup of trial data, users with trial accounts are strongly advised to migrate important data to their formal user accounts before May 31, 2026.

4. Full-node rental application: Research groups requiring full-node rental are requested to read the rental policy in the Knowledge Base and submit a resource application. (https://docs.hpc.hkust-gz.edu.cn/docs/application/node-rental)

5. Free debugging resources: To help users better utilize domestic computing resources, the HPC Phase IV cluster will make some nodes available for free debugging purposes, depending on resource availability.

II. Maintenance for International Workers' Day

To ensure stable and efficient operation of the platform after its official launch, the HPC team will conduct scheduled maintenance on the cluster from 00:00 on May 1, 2026, to 24:00 on May 5, 2026. The impacts are as follows:

1. During the maintenance period, the HPC Phase IV user portal (https://hpc4login.hpc.hkust-gz.edu.cn) and SSH access will be unavailable.

2. All jobs on the SLURM cluster (including running and queued jobs) will be terminated. User home directory data (/data/user/<username>) will not be affected, but users are advised to back up important data.

3. All jobs on the AI cluster (including running and queued jobs) will be terminated. AI module related data (datasets, images, projects, conda environments, personal spaces, etc.) will not be affected, but users are advised to back up important data.

Please make necessary arrangements in advance. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
